When you're a teacher, you should be more or less used to meeting the parents of your children. As in students. As in kids. As in talking about their grades and conduct and yada yada yada. Sure, there are bound to be those typical pains-in-the-asses kind of folks who will keep on hinting subtly to upgrade their children's performance or grades or blah blah blah. And there will be those parents who will by all ways and means try to evade seeing/meeting you over their children's poor grades/conduct. However, there are also the nice supportive ones who will co-operate and ensure that their kids keep to the right path, who genuinely listen to you and your suggestions, who don't try to put you down and act as if they know everything best, who set good examples to their kids.

But when you're meeting your prospective in-laws, everything changes.
